POTOMAC REGION PATCH PRIMER
These standards are for reference only
All patch designs are approved by the Region at a Regional meeting prior to acceptance of the design and size. Because of time restraints, the design can be approved by the Regional Commander if no meeting is scheduled in time to meet the lead time requirements.
The standard patch for Potomac Regional skirmishes is a 4 inch, round patch with less then 6 colors, including background. We can accommodate various sizes and shapes but we need to consider the costs involved. At this time a 4 inch patch cost around $1.26 each, including shipping and custom fees. Cost goes up geometrically, an inch or so can double our cost. Be frugal. The measurement is the diameter of a round patch and the longest side of a rectangular patch. Add approximately $.50 to the cost for fully embroidered patch. In addition, stay away from the color gold, yellow is fine. They charge a mint for the gold thread.
DESIGN:
Design should include as a minimum Regional number, i.e. 84th Potomac Regional, dates of the skirmish and Host team names. These items can be incorporated into the design in any fashion – be inventive. To avoid high costs the patch should be less then 6 colors, less then 100% embroidered, and not more then 4 inches by the longest measure. Variations from this standard will have to be approved as to size and number of colors.
The design can be larger then the actual patch but make sure that the details will show when downsized to the patch dimensions. Make the design as best as can be done – remember you will get a patch that looks exactly like the design. All mistakes, smudges, etc. in the design will be duplicated on the patch. Design should be in color – the colors of the design will be duplicated on the patch. Do not try to change a color with a label, it will not work.
The patch design can be hard copy or e-mailed to the Paymaster in most all of the accepted formats.
SCHEDULE:
Because of the time it takes to get the patches from Taiwan the lead time is critical to assure the receipt of the patches for the skirmish. The final patch design should be approved and in the Paymasters hand at least 4 months prior to the skirmish. The following schedule will have to be followed.
SPRING POTOMAC PATCH – Patch design should be presented to the Region at the Regional meeting at the Fall Potomac of the prior year. The January meeting is the absolute latest, but remember, this meeting has been canceled due to inclement weather.
FALL POTOMAC PATCH – Patch design should be presented to the Region at the Regional meeting held at the Spring Potomac.
