Team History
Organized at Plattsburg NY and mustered in August 27,
1862, Attached to Provisional Brigade, Abercrombie’s Division, Defenses
of Washington 22nd Army Corp. Service. Guard and provost duty at Washington D.C. until April 20-May
4.The 118th
was sent to the Chickahominy for reconnaissance. Some battle’s included
Sulfolk, North Anna, Bermuda Hundred May 16-28, Cold Harbor May 27-31,
and battles around Cold Harbor June 1-12. Some other battle’s where Petersburg,
Fair Oaks, Drurys Bluff, Fort Harrison, Swift Creek, Richmond. The118th
where in pursuit of Lee April 3-9 and at the Appomattox court house April
9 for the surrender of Lee and his army. The 118th was mustered out June 12 1865. Veterans and recruits transferred
to the 96th NY Infantry. Killed and mortally wounded the regiment lost 6 officers and 93 enlisted
men, 188 enlisted men by disease. Total 287. The 118th Adirondack Regiment applied for membership to the N-SSA in January
of 1995 and stood inspection at the spring national.
The 118th have been participating in National and Regional Skirmishes since
then.
