Michael Madden, Medal of Honor winner

On March 22, 1898, Madden, who was born September 28, 1841 in Ireland, was awarded the Medal of Honor . A private in Company K, on September 3, 1861 at Masons Island, Md., he assisted a wounded comrade to the riverbank and swam with him under heavy fire, across a branch of the Potomac to the Union lines.
