SECTION 2 -- ELIGIBILITY OF COMPETITORS
2.1 ORGANIZATIONS
Any probationary member organization or member organization of the N-SSA
or invited organizations, as defined by the By-Laws of the N-SSA, may participate
in National or Regional Skirmishes. Refer to rule 16.2.1
for eligibility of skirmish staff.
2.1.1 COMPANY
Each probationary or member organization may enter as many companies as
it desires in a skirmish, dependent upon available range space. Each company
shall be commanded by a Company Commander appointed by its organization.
2.1.2 INDIVIDUALS
Every participant in a skirmish must be a member in good standing of a
probationary or member organization. Participants in any portion of the
skirmish program which involves the discharge of firearms must be at least
15 years of age, and meet the requirements of inspection under Section
9. (April 1992)
2.2 INDIVIDUAL MATCHES
An organization may enter as many participants for the individual matches
as the program shall allow. Competition in the individual matches is limited
to persons fulfilling the requirements of rule 2.1.2.
2.3 UNIFORMS
All participants, including line judges and safety officers, must be in
an approved uniform for National and Regional Company and Artillery Matches.
For National Individual Matches, the wearing of uniforms is optional with
the individual shooter. The requirement to wear approved uniforms at Regional
individual matches shall be at the option of the regions. See rule 5.13
for inclement weather skirmishes. (January 1, 1999)
2.3.1 APPROVED UNIFORM
All uniforms, insignia and accoutrements shall conform with the style and
regulations of the Civil War period, as defined in Section
5.
2.3.2 ACCOUTREMENTS
All accoutrements shall be original, or authentic replicas of regulation
equipment. Accoutrements shall conform to the standards set forth in rule
5.18.
2.4 IDENTIFICATION AND COMPETITOR NUMBERS
Each member of every organization of the Association shall be issued a
permanent identification number, to be used as a competitor number for
official individual matches and as otherwise needed. Each member shall
have a number assigned by the Executive Secretary. Each member's number
shall remain with him permanently as long as he remains a member of the
N-SSA. When he is no longer a member, the number shall be retired and shall
be used for no other person. It shall be the responsibility of each member
organization to immediately notify the Executive Secretary in writing when
a skirmisher ceases to be a member in good standing of that organization.
If a person re-joins an N-SSA, unit, once having had a number assigned
him, his original number shall be restored to him. This numbers is not
intended to indicate seniority within the Association or within member
organizations. A "V", denoting "veteran," following a person's competitor
number indicates at least ten years of membership in the Association. (October

2.5 IDENTIFICATION CARDS
No member shall be allowed in front of the safety line of the firing range
at any official skirmish unless he is visibly wearing his current N-SSA
membership card either on his hat or on the front of his shirt or coat.
2.5.1 DISPLAY OF I.D. CARDS AT NATIONALS
Guests and visitors must conspicuously and appropriately wear the identification
cards provided by the N-SSA while at Fort Shenandoah. While at the Barn
Dance at National Skirmishes, all members, guests and family members conspicuously
and appropriately wear their identification cards. (October 1997)
2.6 REQUIRED PARTICIPATION
Article II, Section 4 of the By-Laws requires member organizations to participate
in at least three (3) official National or Regional Skirmishes a year.
The official record of participation shall be kept by the Adjutant, as
follows:
(a) A printout of National Skirmish musket company participants shall
be sent to the Adjutant by the Statistics Office Manager following each
National Skirmish.
(b) Each Regional Commander shall report to the Adjutant annually regarding
any of his region's organizations which did not participate in at least
three (3) official skirmishes during the previous year.
(c) The Adjutant shall submit to the Board of Directors each January
a list of all organizations, if any, which did not participate in at least
three (3) official skirmishes the previous year.
